General & Robotic Surgeon
J. David Roy, M.D. joined Wiregrass Surgical as a general surgeon in August 2021. Raised in Dothan, Alabama, Dr. Roy is excited to be back in the Wiregrass to serve his hometown. He attended college at Auburn University where he received his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences in 2012. He attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama where he received his medical degree in 2016. Dr. Roy completed his general surgery internship and residency in 2021 at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama where in 2018, he was awarded the class and overall winner for the First Annual Robotic Surgery Competition.
Dr. Roy strives to enter into a compassionate collaboration with his patients to formulate a treatment plan to cure disease and enhance quality of life. He seeks to utilize the most up to date clinical evidence and cutting edge technologies to offer minimally invasive options and easier recovery after surgery. Dr. Roy focuses on a wide range of surgical areas, including but not limited to, minimally invasive robotic and laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery for both benign and malignant disease, hernia repair, anti-reflux surgery, breast surgery for breast cancer and benign breast disease, thyroid surgery and skin cancer surgery.
Dr. Roy is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons as well a Resident Member of the American College of Surgeons. He is affiliated with Flowers Hospital and Dothan Surgery Center.
Dr. Roy and his wife, Kelly, have two children, Jim and Wesley. In his free time, Dr. Roy enjoys playing golf, running, spending time outdoors, traveling and being with family and friends.
